Two Old Crocks, Gimps, or any other title that fits!!!

walking sticks
Urban Dictionary: gimp

www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=gimp

(1) a derogatory term for someone that is disabled or has a medical problem that results in physical impairment.

ppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

I’m not sure if my disability is a flare up of the L5-S1 surgery years ago, or a recent muscle strain. Whatever, very painful, walking almost impossible, housework ditto!!! I managed to prop my walking stick against the wall just long enough to snap a photo.

And to add to the catastrophe, Hugh also needs a stick, he has problems with his spine, conservative treatment for a few weeks, and if no  improvement, will need to see what the Doctor has up his sleeve, I hope it is voluminous and has the capacity for anything that will heal, cure the pain, and get my man back to normal. Two very  grumpy people, not able to help each-other much at all!!!

So no new photos today, or maybe for a week or so while we both struggle to regain our mobility!!!

Oh gosh Jean, I'm sorry but I laughed. The reason being, I have Multiple Sclerosis, and have limited mobility more often than not, and poor Hubber's is having back issues. So my laughter was from empathy and that "I know exactly what you mean" thought. I hope you are both feeling better soon. BTW, I like your walking sticks, and your sky pics are great!

Hi Jean, your post and photos are lovely. My prayers are with you for a quick recovery. Sending you a warm hug.

Thank you all, I just tried to walk about 3 feet!!! to put my camera away, and Hugh asked me how far I was going? Karen, I have a friend with MS, and her spirit always amazes me, no grumbles, great sense of humour, and always ready to go camping, yes in a bus, that is their mobile home. Our blogs tell so much about us, and this time round, I am coping so much better than those years ago when I was only 41, and considered myself way too young to use a stick!! Pride truly went before ,not quite a fall, but a very slow shuffle from the bank to the car, never again. My dear Dad made both the sticks, from "Rewarewa" or "honeysuckle" many years ago, in 1982.Greetings to all, walking, sitting or just plain relaxing, from Jean.

Hi Linda ,at RDQ, we are definitely not twirlies, way too slow to be anywhere before 9.30a.m. at the moment. Hugh is better in the afternoon, and has threatened me with a Dr's visit tomorrow if no better. Hope all OK at your place, LOL, Jean

Prayers are flying your direction and I hope they will help some. Even a designer stick is better if you can look at it rather than need to use it.

I hope that both of you feel better, very very soon. Having both of you in pain must be horrendous.

You and I are in the same boat. I can barely move my neck and the doc shook his head and sighed in discouragement. Agony.

A very true quote, Jean! Gosh, I hope you and Hugh repair quickly. I know this is just the time you want to be active.

Oh gosh, that's not good!
Hope and pray you and your husband feel better soon, very soon!
My very best wishes to both of you.

Beautiful pictures!

Thank you all for lovely words of comfort and wishes, Short update, short sleep last night, , short visit to hospital, short ambulance trip, and short dose of morphine, and a shorter top-up of the same. Problem with L4-L5, so no lifting, loads of pain relief, and rest. Will no doubt improve slowly, as all things do with old age. Greetings from Jean

Oy, oy, oy!!! Sorry to hear of your travails. at least the pain has not diminished your spirit/sense of humor. If I were a religious man, I'd pray for you guys -- so, my heart-felt wishes for a complete recovery. Hugs, Stan

Thanks Stan, sense of humour v ery much needed in the ED, at Whanganui Hospital, as the lovely young doctor did all sorts of ( some were embarrassing) tests. The best way is to pull the sheet over rest of body and face, and shut your eyes tightly!!! Friday a.m. much improved, pain almost gone, walking slowly, but the stick is left in the wardrobe.. Hooray!!!
Off to watch the " America Cup" races, sorry all USA people, we down here do so hope Emirates Team New Zealand wins. Stan your words cheer me up so much, ta again. Jean.

I know how much you hate to be limited like this. You really do need to take turns on being in pain. That way one of you could use both canes. I hope you know I am kidding. Sending healing thoughts your way.

I've only just caught up with your news Jean, glad to hear you are on the mend, thinking of you now and sending lots of love and light!!

Nancy J said...

Hi Michaele and June, thanks for your words, cheering me up so much. On Wednesday I did use both walking sticks at one stage, then resorted to crawling!!! So slow, like the tortoise, no fast trips to the bathroom!!!Today lots better, so all loving thoughts and wishes so much appreciated, they must have worked some magic. Greetings from Jean

Beautiful sky pictures!! Hope you guys get back to normal soon. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

Nancy J said...

Thanks Gary , those sky pics were older ones, and normal, that sounds a very attractive situation, slowly arriving there. One at a time is OK, but both of us, awful to say the least. But each day a little better, for me anyway. Greetings from Jean

Take care of yourselves, Jean. Nothing worse than pain flaring up and immobilizing one, just so annoying! Hope things come around soon!

Oh Jean! I am so sorry to here this! I really hope you both get back on your feet very soon. Take it easy (I know you don't have a choice right now) and do what the doctor tells you.
Beautiful photos of your wonderful 'sky/sun sets'.

Oh dear! That is terrible. I hope you are running around soon. You're too young to have to start using a cane! (I told the same thing to Mrs. F the other day after she injured her heel and is hobbling around too. Shh. It's a secret.)
