Laughter is not the “Best Medicine” right now

Bones in my body #2

My doctor said” Do not cough, sneeze, or laugh, it will be excruciatingly painful” He is right. Photo courtesy of the Internet.

I had a fall at home last week,I leant over to close the curtain,  somehow caught my foot under a chair, fell over the chair and onto the floor. The bruise is spectacular, colours fading from black, to purple, to green and yellow. But the cracked ribs are so much worse, nothing to see on the outside, but inside not a laughing matter.

So the next 6 weeks will be a matter of taking pain relief, keeping mobile as best as I can, and never listening to a great joke!!!

Quotation  of the day, author unknown

“ Your X-Ray showed cracked ribs, but we fixed them with  Photoshop  and Picasa”

Greetings from Jean

Been there, done that, NO FUN! Getting to the place where you can lie down in bed without shouting is a milestone. Praying for fast healing.

Oh Jean! So sorry to hear this! Accidents can happen so quickly without warning.
So no humour for 6 weeks eh!? Time to get serious I guess.
Please do take care Jean and follow doctor's orders.

Dear, dear Jean ~ Do take it easy. Mark had some cracked ribs from when we were in a car accident, not fun. I cracked a rib from too much coughing from a terrible cold a few years back. Laughing is definitely not fun, or sneezing or coughing.

Love and hugs to you and Happy Valentine's Day ~ FlowerLady

Jean, wow, take care of yourself. The post I made today is not humourous, just so you know. Sending you a hug.

Oh my, I'm so, so sorry to read about your fall--I promise to not tell you a joke to make you laugh, but I will tell you that I hope you heal quickly and uneventfully!!!

Take care!!

So sorry to hear this Jean. I am in a slightly similar predicament. I fell in our bathtub after experiencing a black out from the flu and vomiting. I ended up at emerg and had to stay overnight with tests.
The results proved that I had the flu but nothing wrong with my lungs or heart. However, the force of falling bruised my middle back and left quadrant of my chest. So I know what you mean about "no laughing" of course Jim doesn't listen and says these funny things. Oh when will I learn not to laugh so much. I don't have any broken ribs thankfully but this kind of pain is so not me. Advil gelcaps are my friend.
Take care and STOP LAUGHING!

You are right, no laughing matter! (and I know about this because I am a pro at breaking and cracking ribs so many times I have lost count).

Thank you all so very much for encouraging and caring words. Sleepless nights for some time mean I can watch the Sochi Olympics, ( on our TV, 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.) and early this morning I thought of my USA friends as the three young men winged their way to a ski slopestyle sweep, with their flips and triple corks, what was the best, they all hugged the 4th placegetter, so he did not feel left out. This was gracious winning that they can be so proud of. Josh, Gus and Nick, congrats to you all from NZ, ( to my friends in Canada, I cheer for all your team members too) and fond hello to my dear friends, Jean.

that is not fun news! Hope you mend quickly. The Olympic games have been stunning to watch, I've only caught the highlights but what perfect timing for your injury to sit and enjoy watching them.

Oh dear Jean you have been in the wars a lot lately. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Love and a hug from the north.

Oh no - perhaps no hug as that may hurt you.

Sorry to hear you are hurting. The saying laughing on the inside is what you better not do. No sneezing is a little more difficult.

Oh Jean, how nasty! I cracked a few ribs before and the pain is excruciating. I hope you heal quickly!

Oh dear girl! I can imagine your pain. I only bruised a rib once and it was horrible. Please just rest and enjoy the olymics. Hide the pepper shaker and steer clear of comedy.

Hi Jean, Cracked ribs are definitely NOT a laughing matter. Heal quickly! Sending you a (gentle) hug from CO.

Oh that sounds so painful! Heal up quickly and perhaps all the colors of your bruise will inspire a quilt!

I am so sorry about your ribs. I broke ribs a number of years ago, and it was sooo painful. Hang in there, my friend. You and I can convalesce together from afar.

I can see so many of you have been where I am now, and either pain filled days, or a pain-free daze, meds work wonders but do have side effects. KB, all I can say is, I'm sure your surgery was more serious than my fall, keep up those tablets, walk slowly, gather the Duo, even our Felicity can see I need her TLC, she snuggles closer every night by my legs . lovely words and wishes from all round cheer me up so much, sadly no Valentine celebrations here, and our Wedding Anniversary on Monday, might be a very quiet day!!!But I am thankful I did not fall on the stone hearth, or break a hip or leg, specially as Hugh was away in the W.W.!!! I am very grateful for each day ticked off the calendar ,... as the count-down to 42 days gets closer. Cheers to all, Jean.

Good grief, you poor thing, I hope you are feeling a little better now, and that at least you can cough and laugh a little easier soon..... Take care!

Jean I am so sorry for your mishap and pain. Health issues are never fun. Ever. I hope that you heal quickly and are soon out of pain.

Thanks, all, I see in US, and maybe Canada and Europe, there are wonderful things called " Yak Trax" and if I ever venture into snow or ice, will definitely have a pair, but this was inside, pulling a curtain across to keep out that hot morning sun!!! Nothing exciting or glamorous at all. Gayle, lovely to see you here again, Hi to all at TWH. slowly does it, meds at night give that blessed relief called sleep. Cheers to all, Jean.
