From Glam to Lamb to Wam™ July, 2014

TM

Trademark,” Wearing All Merino”  local use only.

Lately the temperature has dropped to  below zero Celsius in the mornings, and although the noon-day heat is warm, merino clothing is a necessity. Fabric by the metres, lots and lots, Bernina sewing another few thousand stitches, and all  the family are covered!!! ( Some of the goodies are sewn in fleece, with merino lining )

After some of the morning frosts, we have had glorious sunshine, and little wind.

The  New Zealand pigeon, or  Keruru, sat with his back to the sunshine, high in another tree.

Quotation of the day, by Ernest Lehman

After all, the wool of a black sheep is just as warm.

Sounds really cozy! Love the hand warmers. I wear them in our "winter." They help keep my hands flexible. We get some clear bright blue sky days, but not this time of year!

Hi, the merino hand warmers were a real problem to sew, the fleece ones so easy. Theresa, the merino fabric I use is extra soft, and a friend who cannot wear wool has 3 singlets now, and no itches so far. Lovely blue sky after another minus morning. Cheers,Jean.

Your chilly weather sounds nice to me. It is so hot and muggy here. We've had lots of rain so everything is growing like crazy.

Have a good week.

When I was in Oz I saw lots of Merino clothing that was made in NZ. I even bought some - a pair of gloves - which are merino and possum - and a sleeveless undershirt. They are both super soft.

Cool indeed, Jean! And as you know we don't leave the house without our Merino gear almost year-round.
Lovely photos of your winter there in NZ.

Many are complaining about the heat and humidity around here. I keep telling them that they need to remember this in January when we have 20 below 0!

Thanks for a view of the other part of the globe! We have hail and tornado warnings, too!

I'm glad that you get glorious blue skies and still air after the morning chill. That merino wool clothing looks wonderful. Do you mean that you sewed it? That's impressive.

You have been busy. We are having a lovely winter one of the mildest and sunniest winters ever - I could love winter if all are like this.

All your sewing looks wonderful! I don't sew with wool much but I do knit and crochet with Merino wool. Probably the Merino wool fabric is much cheaper there? It is supposed to be close to 38ºC here for the next week, cold weather sounds rather lovely. At least you can bundle up.

Hi all, yes, we have had a mild winter, not really a severe frost yet, but some rain. The merino fabric is super soft, and comes in all colours, literally, from cream, white, black, all blues, purples, greens, pinks, greys ,reds , and more, from 160cm wide, at $20 per metre, but on sale lots less, so I can get 3 singlets , long length, out of 1.5 metres, Grandson's extra long ones just sneak in, I so enjoy sewing these, forgot to put in photos of the long johns!!! Some neck warmers have merino inner and fleece outer, for wind protection. Cheers, Jean

It's still crazy to me how we all share this same "small" world yet you're in winter while I'm in my very short summer. I've been gone from blogging for so long and so much has happened with graduations, rain, vacation of sorts, rain and some gardening. I'll try to make a post on the next rainy day. For now I mow grass! :) Hope Hugh has a good day tomorrow.

Such beautiful work. So you do all of this? If so, you are certainly talented! Love the beautiful tree and bird. Send some of your chilly weather here to Texas.........please??

Nancy J said...

Hi Gayle, great to know you are OK, and you are still in blogland up there. Yes, winter here, and Kathleen, I sew, did almost everything many years ago, and not so many clothes now, but all our merino, and we do wear merino in winter every day. Cheers, Jean.

It's so hard to remember you are in the middle of winter. We just had such a heat wave for almost a month. Finally has cooled down some. British Columbia and Washing and Oregon are all burning with forest fires. We have one goin about 6 miles away just on the hills above us. But after 5 days they may finally have it under control. We have been spending weekends at our house in town that was a rental and the tenant moved out a few weeks ago. So much has changed in town making it a wonderful place to live at that house. We are in nature walking in about 500 feet. We have spent no time at the property we purchased last winter. Really enjoying our weekends right on the river in town. Decisions Decisions. We I am glad all your wonderful looking cloths are keeping you warm.
