Can I wear these in Wellington?? NO..NO..NO..

We will be in Wellington on 26th July, and already I am realising I need to be dressed in something smarter than ‘ CASUAL”,  comfortable, or working gear. Goodbye to the gumboots, swandri, and homemade hat!!!

Many thanks for all birthday wishes, compliments and good wishes,  but it isn’t until 25th July. I needed to have my new driving license at least 3 weeks before then, in case of any hold-ups with the processing. It arrived in 4 days!!!  So no celebrations until we return home, then maybe a party with Joyce, ( her day is 20th) and other friends who also are  Leos.

New Gumboots

Jean on Kahikatea Walkway

I have started to adjust already with a wonderful haircut, and good clothes have been sorted.

Hannah    ……        this is what we have to water a huge area. Drag the hose out, have a gentle curve at the  start, put the front narrow wheels over the hose, and the force of the spray propels it back to the tap end. A huge saver in time and  effort. We originally had a Pope model, but this seems to be fool proof, and very sturdy. Photo and data off the internet.

Quotation of the day, from Mark Twain

“Clothes make the man.

Naked people have little or no influence on society.”

Well! I think those gumboots are really cute! We don't dress above casual for much of anything here in Florida, so I know how you must feel. All the best on your travels, congrats on the speedy delivery of your driving license. You've gotta love Mark Twain :-) G.

I felt that way when I went to New York - couldn't wear my grubby mid-west clothes in the most fashionable city on earth! But I did anyway, lol.

Hi Jean! I'm so glad that you escaped the flooding in your area. I always feel so sorry for the people who lose their homes and belongings in floods and other natural disasters. It would be devastating. I know it's lives that matter, but our homes mean so much to us. I'm glad that Hugh has his surgery scheduled. I'm sure that it will be a relief to have it behind you both. No wellies in Wellington? LOL I could have used a pair today in rainy Victoria. I shall keep you both in my prayers. Take care!

A good haircut is always a good start.

I am sure it must be really cold down your way. It is the first time I have seen ice on the bird bath here.

Those are pretty fancy boots. Come to Tokyo instead and you can wear them here.

Hello Jean, sounds like you will be ready with your dressy clothes and a new hairdo. Wishing you and Hugh all the best in Wellington. I love the quote! Enjoy your day and the week ahead!

Gotta give you extra credit for 'making an effort' in the getting dressed-for-town department, Jean. I'm afraid when I go to the city for appointments or shopping, the best I can do is be clean. Oh, and I reluctantly leave the wellies behind.

Years ago I remember thinking I couldn't wear my patchwork jacket into Wellington.....until I walked along Cuba Street where I was decidedly just one of the crowd! Anything goes here, but the wellies might make walking a bit tiring! Do hope there's a chance we can meet up while you are here, I'll email my mobile number.

I definitely am lacking in fancy clothes these days so I'd be scrambling to find some!!!

I guess we can keep wishing you Happy Birthday for a few weeks! :)

You are so cute. My parents always watered with the lawn tractor. More than once I looked out the window as a kid and went screaming to my mom that the tractor was in the middle of the street. Then my brother would get in trouble for not watching it. Those tractors, back then, sometimes completely ignored a gently curved paths.

That is funny, Jean, no Wellies in Wellington. Have a happy birthday. It's sweet of you to post the lawn tractor waterer but we don't water our lawn, it is beds surrounded with deer fencing that we water, and we can only use the hose bib out in our front lawn, since hose bibs on the house cause sand to enter our pipes and sand filter. So it's the beds that are located behind the house that require several hoses to reach them.

Hey, just go as you are!! Why not!
I suppose some people my think you are from 'out the road' as we say here. lol
This will be like a fancy trip to the city where you can dress to the 9's and pretend you have lived in Wellington for years!!
I still think the gumboots would be fitting!
Love that quote! Never thought about it in those terms! lol
