No Snow for the photo shoot, just rain and wind

This November has flown, with hospital visits, Hugh’s cataract surgery, a loose pipe in the laundry( no details there, words were too graphic for publication) more driving and 3 deadlines to meet. And one more all done and posted, this is a surprise . No Photos Yet!!! All done on time, whew!!!

I look at the snow where quilts are displayed at Kathy’s place, you will find her at Tamarack  Shack .They lie gracefully on that white stuff, and look stunning. Today the One Block Wonder November block  was finished, but like a mushroom, it started out as a small idea, then I found this wonderful design, and thought it suited the batiks I had. Well, it grew and grew .

Inside was dull and boring, and the light wasn’t great. Outside was wet, so   I used the large sun umbrella, in case this was the best light all day. Then later, sunshine came, I strung a stretchy cord between 2 Cabbage Trees, and hoped for the best.

One Block Wonder in the wind

One Block Wonder in the rain #2

One Block Wonder on the line

Under the umbrella shows the colours best, and I need some ides, do I bind this, at  32 inches, or add a border in deep blue or burgundy, or maybe 2 borders? I thought this was going to be a small project, but now it is finished,  I am  so glad  I persevered. My Dad would be so  proud, as he knew how I can leave things to the last minute. This wasn’t the case here, just daily life and all else intervened.

And, my post this week had a super delivery. Mug rugs, YES, there were 2, from Tiff at Folded Gingham, as well as some lovely buttons, and fat quarters in reds and green. Tiff, thank you so much, I hope your parcel has arrived by now, I managed to meet the deadline, not by NZ dates, but yours, and Kimberly,   you can find her at  Camp and Cottage Living, many thanks for my wonderful mug rug swap partner.

Maybe there will be a few days respite, with just  one more sewing project to finish tomorrow,  our younger daughter’s birthday  is at the end of next week. No photos, as a surprise will be posted.

Quotation of the week, author unknown,

“Life is a one time offer, use it well”

Greetings from Jean

What a beauty your one block wonder grew to be Jean! I just love the colours. I guess it depends on how large you want this to be whether or not to add sashing. Or if you want another design element added. I think has enough happening to stand on its own. But that's the great thing about this...it is your creation.

Lovely colours in your One Block Wonder and it's a good size.

With or without a border, it looks great! I guess the final size depends on what you will do with it.

Again your quilt has turned out lovely. I'm afraid I wouldn't be very good at putting the colours together as well as you do! I'm glad you received enough sunshine to display it for a good photo shoot.
Frankly I don't know how you get so much done, so many projects. I am looking forward to seeing your mug rug to Tiffany soon. I just received mine yesterday. Would you believe I forgot to take a photo of my own? I'm hoping I can get a pic from my swap partner!
Have a good weekend and a Happy B'Day to your daughter!

Nice quilt! Not sure aboutthe borders, it looks pretty good as it is. But i'd go for borders 'cause the light colours at the edge need something holding them in. Looks good.

Lovely! Will look good either way... Just depends on what size you ultimately want it to be!!

I cannot sew two stitches together barely and you're quilting your heart out. Impressive. I am so glad you are having fun with it too. Looks like your weather is beautiful too. Carol

Love that quilt. I would be tempted to add another border, something darker I think.
I follow Tamarack Shack too. Doesn't she live in the most stunning location?

I checked out that snow quilt....WOW! Look at all the work in that one! And it looks great against the snow. I have heard that fresh snow is a good cleaner of hooked mats and I guess it would work on quilts too.
Cabbage Trees? So exotic! Your quilt looks wonderful in all its colours, Jean.
Now catch your breath and enjoy your summer days.

hope your december will be a bit less hurried (and no pipe issues, either!)

You are busy, busy and your quilting is looking ever more beautiful. Should I send you some snow for your photos?

Nancy, Mrs. Furry Gnome and I discussed your quilt tonight. We think it needs a blue binding around the edge' but not really a wide border. We'd pick one of the blues you used in the centre, see how it looks. Another wider border would destroy the neat in and out pattern you've created using the fabrics on an angle.

That is a gloriously beautiful quilt. I love it. I enjoyed seeing the colors in different kinds of light.

I can join Barb in sending you some white stuff for your photos :)

You are doing so many productive things with your busy time, Jean. I wish mine were more like that. I want to get to some sewing but end up cleaning and throwing stuff out instead to get ready for company. I find lighting for photos really tricky too, your umbrella does a really good job on your lovely quilt. I like all the diagonals, they give it a feeling of motion. I don't know what dimensions you are after, but there does seem to be a lot of white.

Goodness- pipe issues? That sounds serious! I love the block quilt- you are very talented. I don't know if I would add another edging or not- it's very pretty as it is.
Have a great Friday!

Oh my it's gorgeous - I think a dark border would really set it off, but if you're done, you're done!!! Either way I love it.
