When Careful Plans Go Wrong

The June One Block Wonder with Sandy at  Upstairs Hobby Room looked fabulous, and was called   a Topographical Block. You can see why if you go to the link.      June Topographical Quilt blocks .

June One Block Wonder #3

I loved the layout, and decided I would do blues, purples, greens and one other colour. The blue block was done, then I looked carefully, and decided there wasn’t enough contrast from dark to light.  It does look OK in the photo though. So I began the next layout, with all different fabrics, and YES, my favourite batiks.

June One Block Wonder #4

The blue was what I thought would go round, matching up at each seam. but  blue went to green, oh dear,  I had cut the rows in the wrong order when I reversed them.More blocks have been sewn, CAT scanned, and I tried different ways to put them together. I can see the rose pink is  almost taking over the whole block, so If.. WHEN I make more, might need to change that one fabric. I am thinking that a whole set of blues as a border, not the same fabrics, but similar, this would give it a frame.

And to make sure this does get finished. I think a QAYG will be the easiest way for me.BOM June 2016 #4

BOM June 2016 with Boris

..BOM June 2016 #1

Slight interruptions to the sewing, a visit to the oral surgeon   last week .How does he think you can talk when your mouth is full of hardware?? and numb  from one side to the other? When I mumbled what I thought was “ Yes, I’m OK” to his question, “Are you all right”,  he replied.” That wasn’t very convincing”. Thumbs up was the only way to reply after that. Adrenaline in the injections and no doubt in what he swabbed with afterwards, left my heart beating fast and the old legs a bit shaky. 10 minutes sitting in the waiting room, no doubt to make sure I was “ OK”.Very reassuring, kind, gentle, tall and good looking,  all a girl could ask for, maybe anywhere but there!!!

A very dear friend phoned me later that day, and came with yummy soup, a beautiful card, and a bunch of such fragrant Luculia flowers”. Thank you Rosalind and Jack, this and your thoughts earlier meant so much. This was a new shrub to me, I phoned around, and the next day managed to find one, the last one there, and it is waiting for a sheltered place in our garden. So a permanent  memory of true friendship will be in our garden.

Luculia flowers and beautiful card

are in the seeds of today”

Hello, your quilt looks beautiful. I am sure you will find the fabrics that work great together. LOL, I always wonder why the dentist ask you questions when you mouth is full. Do they really expect a clear answer? Your new flowers are pretty, a lovely gift. Have a happy day and new week ahead!

Boris seems to be doing a 'quality control' scrutiny of your pattern matches. The completed blocks are dazzling pretty. The Luculia flowers look like hummingbirds would love them. Rosalind and Jack are truly thoughtful friends. Hope your mouth is comfortable again!

I hope you are feeling better. I had two root canals and two crowns in March and that for me was a first and hopefully a last. So many people's hands in my mouth in a week's span it was scary. Love your quilts. Always enjoy seeing the beautiful designs. Every single time I see one I think, "If only I had the patience." Carol

it is a bit of a mouth full at the dentist when they ask questions when they have their hands in your mouth!! You have great help with the Cat Scan..........:-)

I hope you are finished with medical specialists for a while. Luculia has a wonderful scent doesn't it and such pretty flowers.

Your blocks are looking pretty darn good to me - and in your favourite batiks too.
And how lovely to get a pretty gift from good friends, always especially appreciated.
Hope your mouth is feeling a little less tender now.

Neat block - overseen of course by Boris! Hope you've recovered from the dental visit - makes me cringe just thinking about my next visit which isn't due for a couple of months. A neighbour of mine when we lived on the North Shore had a wonderful Luculia bush, lovely perfume.

What was Boris' opinion of your progress?

My dentist always says "if you feel pain lift your LEFT hand." Why left? Why not right? I don't know and I've never had to lift either hand, but if I lifted my right would he not take me seriously?

Your quilt blocks are pretty- I wish I could see well enough to do that. Ugh to dentists. I can't even talk about going because it sets my nerves off. :(

Hi Jean, just love your batik choices; they all look good to me. But you are so lucky to get yours specially treated...cat scanned. Mine sadly only get hairy from the two big dogs. Oral surgery sounds intense..hope you had good results. Lovely gifts...a flowering plant, the best kind. I will check out that topographical quilt block site...thanks.

I do hope you are feeling better. I never enjoy trips to the dentists that involve needles...huge fear. But a little dentist eye candy definitely couldn't hurt things :) Love how the one block wonder is turning out. I actually really like the subtle changes in the blue block. I almost joined in on the block this month.

Pretty quilt for sure, Jean.
I always wondered why 'dental professionals' ask the patient questions.....habit I guess, engaging the patient.
That plant almost looks a New Guinea Impatients.

I must say that I like your blocks just as they are. :-) Both layout look good and I'm looking forward to seeing how you will assemble them.

Hmmm, ok, still there is something about it and I like that !

I think the blocks look fine, but I don't know anything about quilting. I only know I like it and admire those who can put something like that together. Some women in our crochet group also quilt and they are very good at it too.

You take it easy! Your work is always so pretty!

I love that saying! I will use it tomorrow when I teach yoga; I often give them a little inspirational thought for the class. Are those New Guinea impatiens? Beautiful. As is your quilt, despite that strong pink! I like the quilt-inspector-approved layout best, although the columns one definitely appeals to me too!

Hi, Jean! I'm sitting down with my coffee to catch up on your posts. It always fascinates me to see what you do with your lovely fabrics. "Topographical" caught me immediately ~ It's my lifelong fascination with maps, landscapes, and geomorphology. Sandy put together an eye popping arrangement of greens ~ just beautiful! I think I'd want to work with blues, with the deepest blues in the center, for ocean depths. But I really like your vibrant shades! Looks like Boris was enjoying your work too!

Sorry to hear that you had a stint with an oral surgeon ~ been there too many times myself, so you have my complete understanding and sympathy. I do hope you are feeling better now! Sending you a big hug!

I'm glad you got your quilt sorted out, the first square was rather surprising! The cat scan worked wonders, Jean. Oral surgery is one of those experiences we would rather avoid, that's for sure. Like my current health situation. Hopefully he did a good job.

PS I had never heard of your Luculia flowers, they sound like a dream shrub, and great that they are fragrant, too!

Yuk I hate going to the dentist.....I've had a very bad experience.....hope you are totally on the mend now!! Your blocks are lovely, you are way to hard on yourself....but I know it is frustrating when you are trying for a look and miss the mark....a few days away from them and I bet you will see them differently!

Cat scanned! Too funny! Hope you are healing well from the surgery. I do like the lay outs of your OBW for June.

I loved the Blue batiks, but the new fabrics are full of character.
