Have you ever COUNTED ???

The seams sewn, the seams pressed open, the threads trimmed, and the times you cut blocks to the right size?

I read Carole’s post on Autumn Jubilee, you can read about it   HERE

and thought this would be something easy for me to attempt. 24 blocks, and I have lots of batik strips, so off I went and started to find suitable fabrics. Easy, well some parts were, but doable in the allotted time, finished today, as the  next instalment arrives tomorrow, NZ time!!!Batik strips and scraps

I sorted, cut, pressed,  and did so many HST. Then the plain squares, and the ones with a wee strip for a stem. Purples, naturally, blues, greens, and all shades of oranges and tans.

Gradually things all came together, Boris wanted to put in his opinion, and ventured across the small design board.

Sitting, waiting for that morning coffee. The morning light was not bright, a faint glimmer of sunshine helped.

Autumn Jubilee Waiting for coffee

The sun is rising so much further to the East, and we get those shadows on a different part of the lawn. I know there is a huge amount of work to mow the lawns, fell the trees, split the wood, but in reality we live in a beautiful place.

Quotation of the day , for my friends further North

“ Autumn,

the time when nature colours the leaves with

red, gold and orange,

showing that a leaf can be as beautiful

as any flower”

Greetings from Jean.

Loving those batiks and look forward to seeing your project progress. Your property is so gorgeous. I bet you are looking forward to the nice summer days so you can sit outside and stitch and enjoy it more.

All that measuring, cutting, sewing and pressing, etc. is paying off in a lovely, artful quilt. You must feel quite satisfied. Your Boris looks a lot like my wild old boy, Ginger Tom -- except your lad wears his tail happily upright. My feral Tom is still quite wild and I haven't seen a 'smiley' tail on him yet, despite all the roast chicken meals. Looks like gum trees in the middle background of your photo. So elegant! I just love them!

Absolutely lovely quote, Jean, thanks and true, really true. I just can't believe what beautiful blocks you have to show for your hard work. I was really feeling it when you described your measuring, cutting, etc.And the white just sets them off to a tee. And you do live in a beautiful place! Frost here in a thin skim over the back deck at 7am. Squirrels and my one chipmunk are very active during the day, foraging I guess. How nature knows what is to come!

Those beautiful batiks you are using are looking very similar to some of the colors that are starting to pop up in my neck of the woods. If I was Borris, I wouldn't be able to stay away from those pretty leaves either.

Again, you have touched my heart with that quote. :-) You DO live in a beautiful place. As do I. This blue and green planet is pretty darn spectacular, isn't it? And here are you on the other side of the planet making leaves like we were doing on our side at the very same time! Love that connectedness.

Inspector Boris at your service!! So cute!!
Jean, you make it look so easy! and your choice of colours is amazing as well.
As your light brightens in the sky, ours fades. That is fine as we all need the rest winter provides, right?
Oh, I bought another 100 year old quilt yesterday. It is a little ragged around the edges but was all hand done of course and has a few more years left.
I will post photos of it this week.

I am in awe of how productive you are at creating beautiful things, Nancy! And you do live in a glorious place! Looks like Boris gave your creations a thorough and approving inspection! I believe a leaf can be as striking and beautiful as a flower in all seasons, but especially in the fall. I commented to your offer of reading my short story that I would send it to you yesterday. Well, Terry went through it last night, and had a field day. As soon as I sort through his extensive suggestions, I'll send the latest draft to you. Thanks so much! Have a lovely day with Hugh and your wonderful kitties!
