A Day at the Beach

Today was another goodish kind of day, so we set off.No wind, some sunshine, and finally arrived at Castlepoint. Shown as Here on the map. In the map the other day I pointed out  where we live, inland a little way, between Wanganui and Palmerston North.

Castlepoint on the East Coast

The wind was blowing, a sign that the tail end of Cyclone Pam would arrive there late tonight or early tomorrow.  One little dinghy, high and dry, a huge crayfish  fishing vessel, the last run for the season. It was launched and retrieved with a self-propelled launching cradle, more photos to come tomorrow, as the crayfish boat came back in from the last run of the  season.

Quotation of the day, author unknown

The lighthouse stands firm, the signals shining brightly in  their own pattern,  sending out messages of safety and security for the sailors at sea”

Greetings from Jean

I sure hope all's well in your parts, Jean because I do believe the whole world has heard of Pam's devastation on Vanuatu. This cyclone is a monster.

Thanks for the map. I always enjoy maps and finding out where all my blogger friends reside in relation to other friends.

Take care and all the best
Ron

How beautiful this is, Jean! What a scene that seems so familiar to me yet slightly different. Your country has it all as far as I am concerned.
So happy to hear that you were not in Cyclone Pam's path. And what a pity for Vanuatu. We heard their president on the radio this morning and he was understandably very upset.

So good to see that you both are out and about once again. All the best.

So beautiful!!! I love the lighthouse... standing so tall. And the photo of the little boat is gorgeous - so simple yet compelling.

I'm glad you were able to visit such a pretty place!

I've never seen such an interesting machine to launch boats! Why do they need it?

This is a self-propelled cradle, used when there is no launching ramp, the boats are too large for an ordinary trailer winch,
and there is not a harbour where they can moor, and then leave the boat in the water all the time. There is a lagoon here, and could be used providing the tide is right. More to come about this soon.

It is heartwarming to see beach and shores and skies. You have a wonderful geography and geology.
I'm so happy to visit your sights.xx
