Life in the Slow Lane

Things have been a bit slow and quiet here lately, Hugh has torn a hamstring tendon, so another trip to hospital, and  back again crutches,  no driving long distances and more. Some  secret sewing, we had a wonderful visit to Jenny and Robin, and more subterfuge. You can read about it  on Jenny’s blog here…

 Romany Quilting, what's a little subterfuge.…

we had a delightful time together, chatted, looked at quilts, UFOs. lunch, so yummy, onion soup ( I must have the recipe), sausage rolls, chocolate  cake, coffee.  I was totally spoilt, our days out lately have been hospital, grocery shopping, or other  necessary outings.

Jack Frost has arrived, and after several zero Celsius starts, today was in the minus zone. Boris delighted in scuffling leaves around, and his nether end didn’t mind the cold one little bit.

Me and my shadows

If you look very carefully, my shadow is there, with more shiny frost to the right hand side.

I have started some feline applique, courtesy of the lovely Cheryl’s patterns,  at

Grandma Coco's Designs   ……….here.   #Photos to come when a bit more applique is finished.

Quotation of the day, from Dakotsu Iida

“ The morning sun radiantly rises

above the frosty woods”

So glad you are ok and hope and prayers for Hugh. That guy has had a rough time the past year. Hopefully, things will get better. I missed you over the weeks and hoped you were doing well. Just came back from the mountains and had a good time in spite of the wet weather. Carol

Thanks Jenn and Carol, the last few weeks have been a bit rough at the edges, not to mention insides as well, but starting to slowly improve. A lovely sunshiney day now.

Ohhhh, frost on the ground....and we're looking at our first really hot days of the season this weekend. I guess frost will be here all to soon...time passes so quickly.

Well, I don't think you can put Hugh in a box to protect him so it is a good thing you know how to find the hospital.
As things heat up here in Tokyo, it is fun to recall walking in the crunchy frost early on a winter morning.

I am so sorry to hear about Hugh's latest health issue. I pray that he'll be soon well and up and about again.

You are having the start of your frosty weather, and we are into our hot and humid summer weather. We did have cool weather longer this spring so that was a real blessing.

Love, hugs and prayers dear heart ~ FlowerLady

Nancy, I hope that Hugh has a speedy recovery and you guys can return to a more normal pace of things. The retreat sounds like quite a fun time. You will have to let us know if you get that recipe ;) It seems so odd to see a fresh field of frost. The days here have heated up to an uncomfortable number and doesn't cool down till late at night.

Here's hoping Hugh has a speedy recovery. The frost looks very pretty on your manicured lawn and Boris makes a nice contrast. I'm now thinking of onion soup -- must add it to my grocery list!

Sorry to hear about Hugh. He does seem to have more than his share of injury. Autumn brings with it many quiet days, a time to relax and reflect. It's always nice to have good friends to spend time with. We are getting into summer days, quiet ones for me, as the heat keeps me indoors. I do most of my knitting in the summer.

Thanks for adding me to your post. I look forward to reading your blog, love the quotations. Boris is a lovely cat, hard to believe that he loves the cold?

Poor Hugh, I hope he gets better soon. Frost sounds lovely just about now as summer in the desert mountains here is beginning to heat up. And there's something so lovely about an orange cat! In England, when I lived there a long time ago, they were all called Ginger. Boy or girl didn't matter.

I love the quote you ended with! Hope Hugh is feeling better soon, tough on you I can imagine. I love that Boris' nether regions don't mind the frost! My pibble Rocco's nether regions, well his entire body sure DOES mind frost!

It certainly looks to be on the chilly side down there with you! Poor Boris, he really needs a warm heat pad to sit on and warm himself up!!! Sorry to hear bout Hugh, he's been in wars hasn't he, hope things improve steadily.

All the best to Hugh and a speedy recovery.
Enjoy your 'hand-work'.

Your photos with the frosty lawn and comfortable cat are lovely. Sorry to hear of further mishaps; at our ages we must be so careful. Happy you had a lovely visit with Jenny, greatly enjoyed by all and cheering for everyone.

Sorry to hear about Hugh's injury, Jean. Glad you were able to get away for a bit. I like seeing your frosty lawn. Still snow on the trails behind my house, but we've had some lovely sunny days with lots of melting. My gardens are sprouting! Stay well.
