Suddenly leaves are changing colour, and branches are looking bare
The Final 6 blocks for the Freefall QAL with Sandra at
are finished. How could 2 blocks give me so many problems? I undid 2 rows of stitching so many times, and still the last TWO points did not meet properly. One more row undone, measured, it might have been a smidgen over the correct 2 inch size. Trimmed, and all is well.WHEW, a huge sigh of relief.
The difficult one!!!
The final 6, with green and background fabrics reversed, and the last 2 blocks with half and half.
this is not the final layout , but they are all there.Hooray!!!
The top blue half and half will be swapped for a yellow leaf, the lower row green and blue will be placed on the left, and the top left changed to lower right, ( I think ) Meantime it can sit and play happily on the design wall, and tolerate a visit each day till I am happier with the layout.
Mother’s Day was quiet, until I received an email from Sandy over at
to say I was chosen by Rafflecopter, and have won the most amazing book by Carl Hentsch,…. New York Beauties and Flying Geese.
How wonderful is that, I am sure Sandy heard my words of joy way up North. Many thanks to Sandy, for hosting this, to CT Publishing, and to Carl Hentsch.
Those batiks are going to be looked at, and no doubt added to, for some of these wonderful projects.
The eBook has arrived, and I will be off to the printers to have it printed onto really good quality paper, and spiral bound.

Your blocks look superb.
Gosh you were lucky winning that book. My friend Teresa quilted some of the quilts for that book.
I think all our leaves will be down too after this cold snap today.
Your Freefall blocks are gorgeous, Jean! Congrats on winning the book. The patterns and colours are so clever and cheery and will inspire more lovely creations.
Congratulations on getting the blocks pieced, Jean. I'm still fuddling with the layout on my design wall, too. :)
Hello, your quilt blocks are beautiful! I love the colors! Congrats on your winning, I love ebooks to read on my iPad. I was having troubles trying to load your blog but it finally worked! Have a happy day and new week ahead!
Congrats on winning Carl's book! It looks amazing!
I like how your Freefall QAL quilt is turning out! And love Batiks! What a great match for this quilt. Perfect with Autumn reaching your area!
All the leaves are falling..... reminds me of a song of The Mamas and the Papas !
How lovely - a book win plus finally finishing your leaf blocks. Both rather exciting in my view!
It will be nice to see how you plan to quilt your beautiful batik quilt.
Thank you all for lovely words.. yes, those words are in the song " California Dreamin'", and it goes on to say... And the skies are grey.. just about right for what we had yesterday, and a little sleet fell last night, not quite snow, but almost!!! Is that a bit of a boast to my Northern friends?? Some blue skies and faintest sunshine right now, and slowly warming from a minus to above zero Celsius. The ebook, needless to say I am thrilled beyond anything imaginable!!!
Congrats to you Jean. Isn't it great to win something you weren't expecting. Soon Winter will set in in your part of the world. Hope your wood pile is high. Love that fuschia color. Take care. Carol
Fitting those blocks together does look like a challenge!
Congrats on winning the book! It looks like a really good one!! Your leaves are looking fantastic. I'll be looking for your final layout.
Congratulations! I'm so glad that winning the book made your day!
The colors that you put together always melt my heart. So vibrant and gorgeous. I can tell how much you love doing it.
This is the book I showed in my last post and isn't it a real treasure! You'll enjoy thumbing through this one.
Congratulations on being the lucky winner, and on finishing your blocks - beautiful!
Hi Maureen, when I saw the book in your post, I had NO idea that I would be so lucky. 1 Celsius tonight, now at 9 p.m. yes, a lot of firewood in the sheds, but it is getting used by the boxes full night and morning. Yes, the hard part of sewing the blocks together is still to happen!!! Thanks again to you all, your words give me the happiest smile.
God going! I just love the way those leaves go together. The batiks make it even more beautiful.
Congratulations, Jean!! I am not at all surprised that you have won. Your work is 'perfection'!!
As your leaves are falling, ours are forming and very tender.
Have a wonderful Monday evening.
I'm in awe of what you can do with your quilts.
Dear heart, you have WAY more patience than me - I would have given up completely on that block!!! You're a wonder! The blocks are just stunning up on your design wall. Congratulations on your incredible win, I'm so happy for you!!!!!!!!!!
Your blocks are fabulous - love the pattern and the batiks! I'd not heard of the book - it looks VERY intriguing! Congratulations on your win!
How sweet! I know you deserve it all! xo
Beautiful Quiltblocks
Thanks for stopping by, glad you enjoyed the Ojai pictures. A lot is going on here so I may not be able to answer email for a few days. Hope you are doing OK. Posting the interview with Rachael tomorrow.
Ooh! Beautiful book! I'm still up in the air about what to do with my New York Beauty blocks... your autumn leaves blocks are wonderful too. I love how there is a mega leaf in the background.
Those leaf blocks look fabulous on your design wall, Jean. You will have lots of fun rearranging until you are ready to sew them together. And congratulations on your win! More fun to come!
Little late to the ball here, but congrats on winning the give-away! Your quilt is so vibrant and I envy you your Fall, my favorite season! At least I can enjoy your pictures, thanks for sharing!
Hugs
Jane
It is SO SO pretty!!! The two green batiks work fabulously together. I think it's good to let them percolate or play on the design wall for a bit.. these batik beauties need to shine don't they?! Thank you so much for playing along (ha) with my first QAL and for persevering with the pesky #3 block. I am so excited for the final reveal with so many prizes to be won! And you bet I will be using Rafflecopter. :-)
Yes purple would be lovely. I had my friend Judy here to visit today, then tomorrow I take Samson to the vet. His eyes are just awful, so much discharge. I have to talk to the doctor about it and find out what to do next. The Friday, I have a busy day, so will write over the weekend. Sorry about the long delay, but it seems like so much is going on lately.
The quilt is amazing, Jean! I love how everything fits together in one large maple leaf! Truly lovely! I hope that you, Hugh, and the kitties are doing well. Sending you all love and hugs!
Congratulations on your win! And I must say...you are such a pro when it comes to quilting.
You are so amazing! I love you!
Love your blocks. The colours are fabulous. Congratulations on your win! Can't wait to see what you make.
