Pigeon Post is winging love to Co. and a parcel to Ca.

The other day a pigeon hopped his merry way  slowly down our drive, past the trees, and into the glass-house. He was struggling with a very droopy wing.  he could not fly and finally I managed to capture him in a trout net, and he is happily living in the cat cage, in the spare bedroom, where it is cool and safe. On Monday we are taking him to Dawn, the local bird rescue lady. A good examination didn’t show any  bare bones,so he is an excellent  ambassador for a message and a parcel.Pigeon at our place December 2017

First job for him is to carry a message of love to Colorado, for R and his family as they wait for more results and possible treatment. KB, I am sending a   message  of love and hope, with so many caring thoughts for you all. R, you handsome fellow, those ears, the loving eyes, and your shining black coat, let all be well with you.

Next up, he has a heavier load as he takes a parcel to California. Inger, the bag is on its way!1 I thought it was fairly safe to post a photo here, Another R( not her full name)!!! is the recipient, I hope this will give her lots of happiness and good use. R loves animals and birds of all kinds, so the owl was a  good start, and the purple batik fabric has cats outlined in a golden colour.

We have been having very hot days, for us here in November. The firewood work is  tiring!!!  Friends helping make so much difference to the work-load.  I am sure that next winter, we will be so thankful.

the six pines

The last tree, #1 on the previous photo, did not fall the right way and landed in the stream. Along came Richard in the huge 32 ton digger, and in a matter of a minute or so,lifted it up and dumped it alongside #2.

This is actually the first tree felled, but #6 in my photo. Limbed, and cut into rounds, They are now split and heaved onto the pile to dry out over summer.

Tree #1, cut into rounds.

The thinner branches have all been trimmed and are saved for cutting into smaller pieces for the chip heater, it heats our hot water in winter, and the solar panels take over in summer.

We save the pinecones, the tiny branches are piled up waiting to go through the mulcher/shredder/chipper.. Nothing is wasted!!!

Hot days for us in November, 29.6 Celsius, and hotter at times. I think of my Northern  friends, preparing for winter, getting out the merino clothing, winter tyres on the vehicles, and furnaces switched on.

Christmas is approaching so fast, we will be home, and having a very quiet day, maybe visiting a friend at night. Our southern family will be staying home, the Northern  family  have our grandies working so many days before and after the 25th, so I think they will be home too. I might save some, just a few,  of those hundreds of pine cones( the photo showed a small amount gathered up so far) and add some tinsel for fun.

“ Friendship is a sheltering tree”

It was a few years ago now that my daughter rescued a brown hawk-owl. It looked a lot less happy than that pigeon but also went to a bird rescue and hopefully has joined fellow owls. And ... that Owl bag is super. Everyone needs an owl to look after their valuables.

Hello, I hope the pigeon will be ok. It was so nice of you to take it to the bird rescue. Your owl bag is so cute. You must have a good sized wood pile for next winter. We will be staying home this Christmas too, I hope it does not snow. Happy Friday, enjoy your day and weekend!

The pigeon was both so blessed to find you and had no idea how busy it would become! The bag is lovely and looks like it has fabulous pockets. I hope you are all doing well, too. Perhaps someone sent the Pigeon to you all with well wishes to start it all off.

Hi Jean! Your owl tote is adorable! Those pine cones - possible nice Christmas accents, or bird feeders covered with peanut butter and bird seeds. Is Dec 1st too early to wish you a Merry Christmas!?

What a lot of firewood, but you'll need it for Winter. Love the batik fabric. Happy Holidays. Carol

Wow, you guys have been busy! That big machine would make short work of tree rangling. Your lovely handiwork will be gratefully received, I'm sure. Glad you rescued that injured pigeon. It's luck took a turn for the better when it ambled into your yard. Hope you are enjoying nice cool drinks in the shade during your work breaks!

Yes Jean, our Merino clothing is all out of storage and being used as we speak! Even though it was 10C here today and raining we expect much cooler weather in the next few days....till APRIL!! We're tough though!

That very lucky and smart pidgeon to know exactly where to go for help.....word must be out that you and Hugh have an animal rescue B&B.

We could use a tree machine like that one! We have 3 trees that need to be taken down before they fall down. We do have a fellow who said he would do them.

Enjoy the summer breezes, Jean.

That pigeon certainly picked the right house! What a lucky little guy to have you rescue him. Yes, here in the northern hemisphere I have started a fire in the fireplace to warm up this cold night, and it will be colder next week. Christmas weather for us!

The pigeon looks healthy so I hope it will be fine. So sweet of you to take it in. And isn't it great to have people around who know about animals? We have several around here too. I know my R will be thrilled with the bag. And even more with your thoughtfulness. I never told anyone what happened to her cat, because I am too traumatized by it and don't want to inflict that on anyone else. But a very lazy and thoughtless woman was involved. Just by checking she could have found the cat in time. Instead she waited five weeks and it was just too late. So I know that your kindness will bring so much light and love to R at the end of what has been a very difficult year for her. Thank you so much. Will go and email you now to answer your questions.

I too am so worried for R and thinking of them up there in the mountains. Big snow is coming across the country here, so I hope they will be able to take him to where he needs to go.

You are so kind Jean!I was happy to see the pigeon looks very healthy. I notice the conifer cones in very neat piles all throughout our property...the squirrels are very busy preparing their winter food supplies. Your bags are amazing and will be so appreciated.
Yes, the woolies and flannel and fleece and down are all out! Winter is here!

Well done capturing the birdie!
Well done creating another masterpiece! I used mine last Thursday, story about it later!
I do appreciate your comments and support. I don't know where the week went. I'm still working on JL's Antarctica book, then working on one for our trip.
The frog pond is still frozen, Daisy took a walk on the wild side today. xx

I can relate to pines being cut! Those pine cones look really big! I just love the smell of a fresh cut pine. We built our first fire yesterday and it sure felt warm and snuggly1

Catching up, again, after my lost month. I hope all worked out well for your injured pigeon. I hope that you are enjoying the warmth from all that wood you cut. It reminds me so much of being home in Nova Scotia by the warmth of a wood fire. There is nothing like a wood fire! You are so kind and thoughtful, Jean, in sending your packages and love to all corners of the world. I'm so glad that we met via blogger. Wishing you all the best, my friend. Hugs to you and Hugh!
