https://www.mmmquilts.com/2019/06/beothuk-star-qal-final-parade-of.html
This morning all I had to do was one final border seam, then we had a power cut for THREE hours. However my darling man hooked up the generator, ran a long lead and bingo, I managed to sail in under the finishing line. Here are some stars and the flimsy.
Nothing is in the right order, but this is one more superb QAL from Sandra, Read her words and see where the original Beothuk idea came from.
Meantime, I can relax, have a coffee, and sit by the fire. Grey skies, a ginger cat on the bed, and the garden looks great, alterations coming up the home straight, just the laundry and hall to be done now.
Quotation of the day, from C.S. Lewis
" You are never too old to set a new goal
or to dream a new dream"

Hooray!!! Fireworks are going off across the harbor in Portland Maine I’m sure to help you celebrate your fine finish!
Another centre star that SINGS Jean! I thought this was Louise's second one, but nope it YOU! So glad for wonderful capable husbands who can hook up generators and such and keep us girls happy with our machines humming! I'm so glad you quilted along again with me this year. Thank you SO very much, especially with all the upheavals (I can so TOTALLY relate) in your home life over the past several months!
Thank you both so much Kathleen and Sandra, Fireworks, that is indeed a great way to celebrate this finish, as we have COLD rain and snow further north of us. Sandra, another utterly fab QAL, I am so glad you manage to give us this each time, each one different, and us happy bloggers and friends can join in. No power meant no laptop internet, and that smart phone is not the same.
Kathleen, I read on Google ( The guru of all info) that indeed there will be fireworks on 4th July in Portland, Maine. We have friends in St Croix, who visited NZ and stayed with us in our other home. Now they are a little further south, with less snow maybe.
I love today's quote. Good to hear the renovations are progressing well. Thank goodness for a generator.
Hello,
Your quilt is beautiful, love the colors. The generators do come in handy. So glad everything is coming together there for you and the new place. Love the quote. Happy Sunday, enjoy your day! Have a great new week ahead.
Those colors are beautiful together. I love it. Pattern and all. Carol
You look like a really good quilter! Nice pattern and colours.
All good Kiwi blokes have their own generator! Pleased you got your project finished in time. Looking good!
Such words of contentment there in your last lines of this post, Jean. I love them and that quote...inspiration for us getting on in life for sure.
Meanwhile, your blocks are such beauties with those almost glowing colours. While I now experience warmth and sunlight, day 5 and counting, you are bundling and keeping warm. Our amazing world.
Beautiful quilt Jean - the colours are wonderful!
I love the colors, just beautiful. What a terrible time for the power to go out, so glad hubby was able to help you.
I just love the colors. They are perfect! I am glad that you are feeling so contented in your new home.
Beautiful colors on your new quilt! I just love it when batiks are worked into blocks.
You are an amazing quilter!
Ihope the renos are going well!
How lovely the quilt is! The colors are just beautiful. So glad that your husband got the generator going for you to finish!
What a lovely quilt top! Love the batiks. Nice that you are on the home stretch in completing the house renovations.
What a prince Hugh is for coming to your rescue, Jean! Your quilt is gorgeous! When we move, I'm going to join the sewing and quilting club.
Well, I sat up at attention when I saw the title of your post. The tragic story of the Beothuk people is branded on my heart. They were considered savages by the European settlers and systematically hunted like animals with the goal of exterminating them. The settlers' drive to eliminate them succeeded, and the Beothuk went extinct in 1829 with the death of the last Beothuk, Shanawdithit. I've heard that the Beothuk were declared not to have souls, were animals, and therefore could be hunted; but I've also heard this idea challenged from other sources. (One of the things I'd like to track down if I ever have enough time!)
I was out on Bonavista Bay in 2011, and our family friend Red slowed the boat in front of a steep cliff and told us a horrific story of Beothuks driven off the cliff to drown by the British. The spot was powerful, and I felt that slaughter in my bones. Just one of so many tragic tales.
Love the C.S. Lewis quote! Words I definitely needed to hear today! Big hugs to you and your prince of a husband!
Hi, Jean! I thought I had left a comment on this post, but I likely messed it up. "Beothuk" got my attention for sure. Having lived in Newfoundland, I am very familiar with their tragic history. You pick the most beautiful colors for your quilts. This one is lovely. I'm glad to hear that your renovations are nearly done! Hugs to you and Hugh!
I like it ! Love the combination of the colors !!
What a beauty!!!!! How big is it?
Pretty quilt- I love the design! I hope you have a wonderful week. (with power!) :)
Hi Jean,
Just checking in with you. No posts for a while. Are power outages common in your area? Hope you are happily quilting along!
This is absolutely stunning.
