A Girl’s Big Day Out

The morning started something like this. Hugh asked me if I would like to go out for the day, “ Yes, OK”, thinking some shopping, a cafe for lunch, a gentle drive on a sealed road!!! I should know better. We drove North, up past Waiouru, onto the Desert Road, and turned off to go down a metal road that disintegrated into a dirt track.

Hugh wanted to find the camping spot for our summer holiday ( We need to hurry up then, as summer is passing fast).Down one little side road, a family from nearer Taupo were camping  in a lovely sheltered spot for a few days. And there was my photo shoot, the perfect model. She is  pure black, the sunshine gave her that pale sheen on one ear at times.

Ally, a 3 month old Black Lab puppy. Exuberant, friendly, shining coat, a wonderful family member. And she posed so well. Thanks, family, for sharing this with me.If you read this and want any photos, please email me, the  address is on “ my profile”.

Yes, Ally was so lovely, and the family very generous in sharing her with me, for the photos. A camping spot, not quite yet, and the rough road, more to come on that.SO BAD, in one place, I got out of the 4WD and walked!!! Cheers to all, Jean.

What a cutie! You got some great photos of her. Black is so hard to photograph. Are your bones jarred tonight?

Ally was a real sweetie, but I am not familiar with taking photos of dogs or puppies,, so some were blurred/discarded/deleted. But I was happy with the ones here. Barb, at the worst parts, and there were some !!!, I walked!!! partly on a level metal track, and once up a steep hill. Bones are OK, as when I stayed in the wagon , Hugh was in 4WD low gear, and we crept along ever so slowly, I mean, slower than walking pace. Needless to say, this is not where we will camp for our holiday. And now I can see how a little black Lab puppy can steal its way into your life and heart so easily. Thanks, everyone, for lovely comments.

Aw, you melted my heart. Aly reminds me of R as a pup. I'm amazed that you got her to sit still for any photos :) And, great job with the "black dog" difficulties of photography!

She is beautiful, and you've captured her perfectly. I've found our black lab so hard to photograph well, the black is hard to see defined in photos. What a great find on your day out!
