Thank you all so much for asking, and seeing if we are safe, is our home still OK.   Yes,   we felt the quake on Monday, but are all  safe and sound  here, no damage, just a heart that  raced so fast, trees swayed, the house and all inside shook and rattled.

Can I still run??     YES,     I was standing under some of our tall firewood trees, heard this almighty rattle, like all the  garage roller doors were   moving, then the ground shook, and tall trees swayed right above me.Yes, I ran to the open lawn, Hugh ran outside to find me, our cat ran outside, and my friends also ran. It seems AGE is no barrier to running when  you have to.

Closer to the epicentre, which is some 100 km or 62 miles away, there was damage to buildings, supermarkets, roads and chimneys. Here, some brick chimneys were damaged. There may be more damage, with reports still to come in.

I filled in the “ Felt Report” and when I last looked  there had been 9151 reports.

The quote, I am thinking of those in the Northern US, with another snow storm on its way or maybe already there. Our  TVNZ reporter in New York, Jack Tame, told us this  morning how very cold it was, and where the snow was heading. Take care,  stay safe, wrap up extra warmly for the next week.

Quotation of the day,  from A.A. Milne

“It's snowing still," said Eeyore gloomily.

"So it is." "And freezing." "Is it?" "Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately.

Greetings from Jean

I don't watch TV or the news so missed your earthquake. I am glad you and yours are safe.

We are expecting another cold front to move down here tonight.

Enjoy the rest of your week ~ FlowerLady

How wonderfully appropriate that quote is! I guess you should say the reciprocal. Earthquakes are no fun, and 100km is not nearly far enough away! Love and prayers.

Glad to hear you are safe. Isn't it amazing how that adrenaline kicks in for a push when needed!

That really is a quote for the day. I feel the house and earth move every time a overloaded truck passes by our house on the highway, so I am not sure if I would recognize an earthquake. Is this something you have experienced before? Funny that is scared the cat.

Wow, I hadn't heard about the quake, I can't even imagine how I would react (hey, I can tuck and roll from a vehicle if I need to - long story).

Take care and keep those running shoes on!

I did not even hear about the quake. 6.2 is kind of a big quake too? I hope you did not have damage..I am glad you and your family were OK.

Jean, I didn't know know about your earthquake. Mary hasn't E-mailed me about it - I wonder if they felt it in Wanaka? Glad to know you can still move quickly out of danger! We're back in Breckenridge. Snow due tomorrow night.

Hi all, many many thanks for your lovely words. Barb, one report from Queenstown, 2 from Dunedin, both were " weak", so Mary probably didn't feel it at all, 435 miles or 700 km straight line apart!!! ( Wanaka to Eketahuna) there have been so many aftershocks, and more reports since my post. the link is
www.geonet.org.nz
and somehow I could not get it to go to the site. Maybe should have posted in the above, Meantime summer sales are on, I am thinking a new pair of running shoes,,, in case!!And for those of you in the line of a new snow storm, take care. Cheers, Jean.

Yes a sense of humour is vital all the time.
Good that all is well Jean. We don't have quakes near us here in Nova Scotia. However our neighbouring provinces of New Brunswick and Quebec and Ontario have.

Love your quote today Jean....Eeyore said it all! Imagine that, not having an earthquake lately....I'm being so very careful with this fact because we are snowed in completely and (knock on wood) we've never had an earthquake.
Glad you are doing fine!

Ron and Sophie (who wouldn't go outside today) coaxing helps but that means I have to go out!

Such is the life of a Doodle Owner!!

Nancy J said...

Sophie, you and the Dads should stay inside, I looked on "uberweather" and snowed in is the definitive word!! No more shakes here, still lots of aftershocks nearer where it started. Thanks too, Kim, Lindsjo, Linda and Jim, caring sent from across the seas means so much, cheers to all, Jean.

I am so glad that you are okay!!! I've never been outdoors during a quake... oh my, I'm just imagining the tall trees swaying from it. It must have been scary.

Oh wow- I hope you don't find damage as everything settles down, and so glad no one was injured. Yes- I imagine I would run even with a hurt knee if the earth started shaking! How scary!

Glad your safe. And you quote is right on. It is -20C today, but we haven't had an earthquake lately.
