What will the day bring???

Most days  begin with coffee by the fire, emails checked, blogs read, comments  made, and the the sun shines.

The other day I was up town, and met this beautiful young lady, with her man. I invited them to our place for a photo shoot.

Tuesday dawned fine and warm, and they arrived,  introductions made, and we walked to the back lawn. She was a natural, with blond curls, and a beautiful smile.

Eva, a glorious Golden.

Kim, I kept thinking of you and all your Goldens, and now  I know how gloriously beautiful and friendly and loving they are, personally, and this is a first time for me .I wished Eva would stay with us forever, but knew she would be on her way home soon. Thanks, Eric, for this time together.

After this, tree felling seemed very ordinary, but the trees were huge, one had to be winched. and they both fell safely where they were meant to go.

The ladder is in place, to attach a strap and wire rope for winching.

tree felling #10

The strap is attached, where the arrow  points.I was standing in a neighbour’s garden,  in a very safe place. well away from the tree, and branches. I’ll measure the tree another day.

JW just had to make sure we know he had  been here!!!  Maybe I should keep this as a paver in the garden.

tree felling JW was here

JW in a difficult place

Here he is ,balanced on the ladder, trimming overhanging branches on a tree by the front driveway. The last  tree to be felled,  for the day.

The next photo  was  from our grandson Josh, he and  Mike went to Mount Ruapehu, climbed to Crater Lake,  2797m asl.  One hour tramping, after the top ski lift. And skiing down on clear snow, no-one else there, what a wonderful day. School hols in my day were working on the farm, an occasional trip to a cousin, or to  Auckland by bus, then train. Now, skiing, trips overseas, or down south, are the norm. Thanks Josh, for the email.

Crater Lake, Mount Ruapehu

Ruapehu is one of the world's most active volcanoes,  and the largest active volcano in New Zealand. It is the highest point in the North Island and includes three major peaks: Tahurangi (2,797 m), Te Heuheu (2,755 m) and Paretetaitonga (2,751 m). The deep, active crater is between the peaks and fills with a crater lake between major eruptions.

Quotation of the day, from Martin Luther

“For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver.”

Greetings from Jean

those tree exploits of yours make me a bit crazy!

and, yes, i'd say golden's are one of the sweetest, most devoted-to-humans breeds i've ever met. :)

I love the beautiful Golden, a gorgeous dog.. I assume you will leave some trees up, or are you clearing the property? Love the snow shot and the quote.. Enjoy the rest of your week!

The golden is absolutely gorgeous wit that light golden look. Wow what a snow image. It's getting cooler here every day with the trees turning. Trying to soak up every inch of warm weather. Carol

I always worry when you fell those mighty tall trees! You had a glamorous blonde model spending some time with you. She doesn't seem a bit haughty. (I was once owned by a golden.)

Eileen, we are having some trees felled, leaving a lot still standing. The aim is to have firewood for one winter and some for the following as well.I'll post a photo with the ones still there, and Barb, we now pay a man to fell the trees, lots easier, and so much safer. Mike did the first 8 in such a quick time, that made me realise that it was the only way to go. And if the trunk/trunks are way too huge, we can get them cut into rounds as well. Yesterday 2 friends were here, to help with the splitting, I am so very grateful for their help. Eva, she was so gentle and friendly, and Josh and Mike had the most wonderful day." skiing untracked snow" says it all. Cheers, Jean.

I am in awe of how tall those trees are. Straight and tall. And that photo of the pups round head just made me wish I could reach out and give it a pat.

I've never seen an ugly Golden Retriever. They also come with a beautiful personality. Hard to believe you are still harvesting those trees. I should think your wood pile would last for years.

Eva is a beauty! Looked like she was surveying your garden to make sure it was right for her.
Jean, we are in the midst of waiting for our 'tree guy' to arrive to take down a large tree that is teetering on an angle towards wires on the road. It is raining a bit, so maybe he'll cancel and come tomorrow.

Just imagine having this place, Crater Lake, all to oneself!! Simply beautiful. have a wonderful Sunday!!

What a fun photo shoot with a beautiful blond! Felling tree is quite an adventure, sometimes the unexpected happens. JW did a great job. You'll be stocked up with firewood for a long time.

Young people always like to go for the exciting activities, that must have been quite a thrill.
