Did You Know???

When I come to visit my friends in Canada, after I arrive,  I will fly by “ First Air”. I made this decision after I read an article in “ The Dominion Post” our Wellington publication. When they fly as far as Resolute Bay the 3kg tracking system must be a great reassurance to pilots and passengers.

DHC6 Twin Otter

First Air Hercules

L382G Hercules

L382 HerculesFirst Air operates the only two civilian owned and operated Hercules aircraft in Canada. Gravel and ice strip equipped, the Hercules is suitable for landing “on site” at mining and exploration locations.  Using its aft loading ramp and door, the Hercules aircraft can accommodate a wide variety of heavy and oversized cargo, such as: helicopters, fire trucks, vehicles, oversize construction equipment and bulk fuel.

While attention is paid to aircraft tracking systems following the disappearance of two passenger jets, a Canadian airline’s planes are outfitted with a system that makes them nearly impossible to disappear.

First Air’s entire fleet is protected by a 6lb electronic tracking system that activates when something goes wrong while a plane is in the air.

The hardware is the size of a hotel safe and helps to pinpoint an aircraft’s location during an emergency situation.

Today is Hugh’s Birthday. not a party but out to lunch, some gifts, phone calls and that lovely cash in an envelope, so he can choose his own goodies. This is what I wanted to get, but they are not made or sold in NZ, well, not anywhere near us, so will ask our friend who  I am sure will make one, “made-to-measure” , photo  below courtesy of Internet.

My hubby's pension depends upon Air Canada, so I'm not thrilled with your choice of airline! :-)

All of the airlines have tracking systems!
Hubby used to work on airline security.

Where are you going in Canada?!
Happy birthday to your hubby.

The beauty of a bigger airline, like Air Canada, is that if you miss a flight, you are delayed, or they cancel one, there are a lot of other flights! Tee hee!

Does this mean you're coming to Canada!? You must have some friends in the far north!

Thank you all for lovely words and wishes. Yes, I have lots of friends in Canada, but so far not a single one as far North as Resolute Bay!!! Coming to visit you all... That is at the very top of my wish list, maybe one day. We have had a fairly good day, out to lunch, crutches, café had a bathroom on the same level as the tables!!! And home to open all windows and doors, the phrase " stinking hot" would apply if I had left even a smidgeon of food on the bench. Jennifer, so sorry about the airline, maybe if I come, will share travel between the one I know, and the one you know the best. I am well known to compromise, lots... to be practical, and resourceful!!!

I really hope you enjoy your trip to Canada, but I hope you don't come in our winter. It can get very cold here like today at -18C. Our summer would be the best time to visit us here in Canada. It can get a heck of a lot colder here as well. In Resolute Bay it would be in the -50's.

Hugh's potential barbecue cart looks very useful. I like buying my own presents too. I commiserate with the hot house, that's one thing I don't miss about summer, though the cold is sometimes painful too. I would love to fly to New Zealand, it sounds like a botanist's dream.

The potential barbecue cart looks very functional. I like to buy my own presents too. I sympathize with your heat, that's one thing I don't miss about summer. But the cold can be a little oppressive too. I would love to fly to New Zealand to look at the plants, myself!

Happy, happy birthday to Hugh! Safe or not safe, I will never fly again. I've flown in cloud hoppers and prop jobs when my father was in the air force. I am the queen of air sickness bag etiquette. :(

Where have i been!?
A very belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Hugh!
Sounds like a wonderful outing you both had....good food, perfect weather.
I wonder what Hugh will spend (or spent) the money on? Something on the 'machine' line comes to mind....
It would be SO great if you came to Canada, Jean! I know it is a very long way to travel but what a trip it would be! You must have lived a 'past life' in Canada.....you have such an affinity/interest in this country. I hope on day you will get to see this great country. As I hope one day I will get to see this New Zealand everyone goes on about!! lol Some day maybe.
