National Flag of Canada Day

An excerpt from March 17th, 2017.

"Have you ever participated in a swap of any kind? This was a first time for me, and my envelopes went, from Rangitikei to Rotorua, to Auckland, to Vancouver via a suitcase of luggage in an AirNZ plane, then by plane to Kelowna, then  the staff at Big White posted them!!! What a roundabout way to get my fabric swaps to friends in the 150 Canadian Women group."

The swap fabrics were returned, some the same way, and others by snail mail.

This is one piece I have been saving for something special, and the time has come to sew it into a table runner. I have reds to add to the edges, and may try to inset the flag design in a second border  too.

And as our grandson is in Vancouver , there is not a better time to honour all Canadians, as they battle to stand against border tariffs and more. Stand strong, stand together, you will triumph.

Meantime, skiing continues, Cypress Mountain had a huge dump of snow a few weeks ago, a snow shovel is a necessity.

Our own travels have included a flight to Dunedin, staying with daughter and son-in-law,  our older daughter flew  down, so we were all together  to celebrate Hugh's birthday back in January.

A cake with candles, and wonderful times together.

AirNZ staff, and airport staff at Palmerston North, Christchurch and Dunedin were so helpful at each step of the flights. We had a delay on the way down, the Rotorua flight had some very disruptive people on board , and security had to board and take them off, then find their luggage to remove that too.So we had a wait at Christchurch till that plane arrived, some 20 minutes late.  We were kept informed all the time, and after that everything went smoothly.

Quotation of the day, from A.  A. Milne

" You can't stay in your corner of the forest

waiting for others to come to you.

You have to go to them sometimes"

Greetings from Jean

Believe me, most Americans have great support for Canada and our current President is working very hard to ruin the entire planet. This is turning into a very scary time over here. Glad you were able to get in some traveling to celebrate Hugh's birthday! A perfect time for you to turn the Canadian piece into a table runner. Your grandson must have a lot to say about the situation as it will impact him.

Lori, scary for everyone, and if you work for the US government your job is no longer as secure as it should be. The impact will be felt world wide, here in NZ too, and Josh will no doubt hear many remarks about it up there in Vancouver. It's good to know how most Americans feel, we don't see that on TV, just the negative stuff. But that's the media way to sensationalise everything.

As you say, a perfect time to make the table runner. My cousins in both Vancouver and Toronto areas are extremely worried about the political situation. I must say, from things I have seen shared that Canada seems to be dealing with it very well with lots of sites on BUY CANADIAN.

Great time for that table runner alright. Many Canadians are feeling threatened these days. A sad state of affairs when you consider the long, peaceful history of co-operation with the U.S.

The past couple of weeks have been very unifying. We are united in being Canadian.
I'm glad you had a good trip, and are now safely home.

I am so angry with the state of affairs. Thank you for your comforting words.
Jesse and the 2 kids are going to Whistler next weekend for races. That'll be fun.
