He arrived in the night, silently, with silver toes

June 1st, our official first day of winter, heralded in with a frost, and another this morning. The grass sparkled like there were diamonds scattered on it.Gradually the sun rose, shining its warmth onto the trees in succession. My shadow shows the bulky layers, merino underwear, fleece pants and jacket, and the best top layer to be made, a pure wool Swandri. Fleece hat, and merino neck-warmer. Where  are  my gloves?? I need to find some that are made for photographers or rifle shooters!!!

View to the North-East, sunshine through the smoke from the wood fire.

Looking to the North-East

My shadow photo was taken almost here, as the sun made the agapanthus leaves a brilliant almost lime-green.

sunshine almost arriving

This is further to the right of the previous photos. Cherry Blossom trees ,the leaves look almost pink, as the sun turns the brown to red. Just behind them, a small Azalea hedge, with bright pink flowers.

Sunshine almost on the lawn

The Weeping Silver Pear Tree, a memorial to Hugh’s Dad Neil, grass under those branches was sheltered from the frost.

A sheltered patch of grass under the Weeping Silver Pear Tree

And I am outlined, in HUGE style, those layers I’m sure are magnified by the camera!!!

My early morning shadow on the frosty grass

Quotation of the day, author unknown

“ Seasons will  keep their arrival on time, each one leaving as the next one comes in with a flurry.

Enjoy  them with their own special beauty”

Oh I envy you all dressed in layers. It's spring here and already the temperatures are in the low 30's Celsius. I hate summer. I love your beautiful frosty shots. Keep warm!

Happy Winter Jean! What beautiful photos of the frost all over the grass! Your azaleas are still in bloom (or were before the frost hit them) and ours are beginning to fad now and will be 'evergreen' till next spring......strange differences in blooming times between our locales.
Sounds like you are prepared for the cold with all the merino and fleece mix. Good to hear from you and have a wonderful Tuesday evening there.

Each season does have its own beauty, and your photos reminded me of that. I always love the long shadows and the soft winter light. Your photos show that beautifully.

Jean, Just dropping by to say "hi" - I see Jack Frost has visited first! Love the shot of the weeping pear surrounded by frost. Only one ribbon of snow still stands between me and my back garden! The perennials rise out of white already showing green.

Hello Jean! I just am stopping by to let you know that I'm thinking about you here in northern Virginia. Of course we are getting into summer, and I hope you are just as warm and all is well!

It sounds strange to hear you speak of winter when our 100 degree days are just beginning! But enjoy all the seasons to the fullest is wonderful advice!

How beautiful the frost in your mowing patterns. Love how the sun creeps up in the trees. Mowing has only begun here with a vengence. Took 7 hours with the push mower a few days ago. We had let it go too long for using the riding mower as it has no bagger. Well we won't be doing that again. So many other things could be doing, but it is back to all the yard and garden work. But taking more time sitting on my new deck and patio furnture we got late last summer. It really is so beautiful here I wonder how we will ever leave. Our leave trees are finally getting really big and such beautiful colors of greens to burgandy. Life can be good...
