Massive Flooding in the South Island , New Zealand.

The widespread deluge, coming down from the hills  on the West towards  the eastern side of the South Island, has destroyed bridges, closed roads, people, pets and animals have either been evacuated or moved to higher ground.

Back here, in the North Island, a good distance from all the above, we have a little rain, maybe more will follow, but our thoughts are with all those who have had to battle severe conditions to save stock, move animals,  pack belongings, and spend a night and maybe more in  a marae, or a friend's or family member's home. Civil Defence, the NZ Army, Volunteers, local council and more have all rallied to assist. Farmers with their huge tractors, men with jet boats, helicopters with lines to save a man clinging to a tree, I am hoping everyone will be safe and secure in a warm place tonight.

Quotation of the day,  author unknown,

Your horse will always be one of your family.

Greetings from Jean

It is terrible isn't it and we just watched the news and saw that Lake Taupo is very low and rain desperately needed.

Saw a report of the NZ flooding on last night's news. A helicopter was air lifting a person to safety. That little pony sure looked glad to be indoors! Glad you're safe in the north island, Jean.

That is horrible. I'm so sorry. We are desperate for rain, here.
You have good infrastructure, and that helps. Lots of helpers.

Our climate is changing for sure. These one in 100 year events are becoming the norm. Hope everyone stays safe.

I'm sorry your country has to go through these massive rains. The same things happens on the East coast and in the South of the US, while here in California, not a drop for so very long now. Take care and stay safe.

Sadly, so much damage in the south island. Massive damage to roads and bridges, these will need to be repaired quickly. Houses flooded, farms awash, all rather scary stuff, isnt it.

How awful! I'm so sorry for all those who have lost everything, and I pray they are able to find safety and their way to those who will comfort them and help them get what they need to sustain them and their 4 legged family members too.

I hope that people can stay safe. It's tough how the changing climate is causing so much damage.
