Late Blooms in Summer

Brunsvigia josephinae

Late this afternoon, I looked for the last of the  summer flowers, and found this, the  one bulb given to me by a very dear friend  in Rotorua. Thank you Hec, this is so  much treasured. No flowers last year, I thought it was lost. Suddenly, one stem, with many flowers to yet open.

Brunsvigia jospehinae, flowering in full sun and in a very hot dry summer, Perfect conditions this year, the flowers are not open yet, but this is one stunning bulb.

Courtesy of the internet, the photo below shows one in full bloom. This can have from 20 to 40 cerise-red trumpets about 3 inches long. Last time mine bloomed, there were 32!!!

I might be home in time to see the last bloom.

Further round was one Amaryllis, or Naked Lady.

Naked Lady bloom

The wagons are packed, I am all packed too, travel tomorrow will be long, about 5 hours, the last part is  on a rough metal road.

Thank you all for words of encouragement, good wishes, and more. I will do my very best to enjoy the 3 room tent, the long drop toilet, a gas fired shower, and know for sure there will be  some very restful days, in a quiet bush area in the  Central North Island.

Cats, Home and Garden will be well taken care of while we are away, our lovely lady, and another couple will be here in residence!!!

3 weeks will soon fly by, and  I will have lots of news to catch up on when I get internet connection again.

Quotation of the day, from Oscar Wilde

“ Keep love in your heart.

A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead”

Greetings from Jean

Thanks Horst, between your stunning white Amaryllis and my yet to fully bloom Brunsvigia, there are flowers-a-plenty. Yes, I will so try to enjoy the camping, I always get this sinking feeling before we go, once there should get into the "groove" and be fine.weather forecast is for fine, hot days, for at least the next 8 days, so think there might well be fire restrictions in place. Will catch up when I get home. Greetings from Jean.p.s. Did you know you are also on my "dream list" to visit???

Don't forget your mozzie cream!!!

Love the naked ladies - I had them in my old garden and now I miss them - must make a note to get the bulbs now!!

Jean, you are probably up in the wilds of central North Island by now, I am sure this change will be good for you both seeing the year you and Hugh have had.
Have a restful, and peaceful vacation.
Love the blooming plant in first photo....looks like a lilium on top.
take care.

Thank you all, we are having breakfast, YES, 5.30 a.m. just the camera and laptop to go in, I am encouraged by you all to be positive and enjoy the time away. Rest, relaxation, books, camera, knitting, sounds very peaceful, and old-ladyish!!! Maybe just what I need after last year's busy and hard times. See you in 3 weeks. Greetings to all my friends, wherever you are, take care, spring for the northern ones is arriving soon, down here darker mornings, summer flowers almost gone, and cooler days ahead. Jean.

Good to see the beautiful flowers, especially since everything is so drab and brown in my part of the world.
