Waipakihi Road Camping Trip

Last week Hugh had  a few days in the outback, and here are  some  of his photos. The Wonky Wagon was a transporter for the Quad bike, then doubled as a bedroom, cooking done under that wonderful tent canopy I so bravely manufactured last year!!! No fish, no deer, but days full of fun and adventure.

A Fishing Pool, accessible by walking a long way, or taking the quad bike on a narrow metal track for  several kilometres.

Pool on the Waipakihi River

Waipakihi River, not far from where I took my photos the other week.

The Wonky Wagon ,  transport,  kitchen and bedroom compartment,   what more could a man want when in the great outdoors???

Quotation of the day, from Aristotle, 384 BC - 324 BC

“ In all things of nature there is something of the marvellous”

Thanks Linda, but I must give all credit to Hugh, taken on his Canon 40D Camera. I did a little PP, for framing but that was all. taken in almost the same place as mine the other week, but he went further along the river to the fishing pools. Cheers, Jean.

Nice outfit he has there. Looks like he was off the beaten path. We still have snow showers. Spring in 39 days Jean. I'm waiting.

It looks very pristine, is the vegetation pretty much native? What kind of fish are in the river? The white sand is pretty, and the water looks very clear. Is it warm enough to swim? Looks like a great place to camp, and your equipment looks comfy.

Hi all. to answer some comments and questions... yes, very off the main road, no toilets, power, or much of a road at all, just a track, the trees and bush, all NZ natives, beech forest, Manuka, and tussock grass, this area is 942 metres above sea level, so lots of snow there in the winter, the river would be running too fast to swim in, and up there, probably too cold even now in the summer. And trout, brown and rainbow, but he didn't catch one to keep!!! The Wonky Wagon, one side of the frame was about 1.5cm too wide, the clamp slipped as Hugh was welding, so Wonky it is, and a lot easier than putting up a tent. And yes, he said the tarp/tent worked very well!!!this is a popular place for families to camp in the summer school holidays. Maybe next time I might go too. Cheers to all, Jean.

Aristotle knew the beauty to be had in nature....and do you both! Nothing more glorious than a flowing river and mountains in the background!
Thanks Jean for this yet another insight into your beautiful countryside.

Hi Jean - thanks for your comment on Comptonia! Your pictures are making me sigh for color and warmth and outdoor activity that doesn't require a down coat.
In case you don't see my response, I've offered to bring you some snow...it worked in Portugal, and I wasn't even trying! ;)

Oh Jean I just love your camping excursion. God I so need to go somewhere camping. I am getting tired of this being a homebody here at the Salton Sea. The days are just running together. You have just inspire me. This weeks project is to get stuff together to go camping a couple nights in our truck.
