There are still many tall trees left, growing for another year, till they too get felled for firewood.
The pile of firewood is heartening, we had wonderful help from Norman and Ann this week, and it is all cut, split and heaved onto that huge pile. I hope the sheds will be full when it is stored away after drying over the summer. Normal size is in the large heap, smaller pieces for the hot water chip heater surround a pine tree.
Now, the log cabin blocks that I am sewing, along with Allie,
at allie- oopssweethappylife, well, I have managed to fit in one block this week. I started with a 3.5 inch centre square, and used 2.5 inch logs. Well, it grew and grew, and ended up a mighty 17.5 inch block!! Not what I wanted, I had planned for 12.5 inch, then to be sewn to finish at 12 inches. This will be an outcast in the final. I had hoped to do each block in shades of the same colour, but can see that 2 logs do not have enough contrast.Never mind, it will be the start of a huge bag!!!
Well, it is Saturday, tomorrow our All Blacks will play against France in the Rugby World Cup. Go, those boys in Black. We will cheer you on from home.

Seeing piles of logs for your next winter, made me smile, as our cold evenings are now with us and the wood burner is giving a cosy feeling, needed for my husband as he's watching the 'All Blacks' match against France, he was cheering France on, but oh dear, .... Well done the 'All Blacks'. Your cabin block patch work is certainly growing. Years ago I joined a patchwork group, but nothing ever seemed to get finished, but I did enjoy the company in our group.

Love the colors in your quilt block. We spent our 18 months in NZ during the time the Rugby World Cup was held there. What a great time. We attended several rugby league games, (not the All blacks), and of course had no idea what was going on! But we were caught up in the excitement of it all!!

I have yet to light a fire. I just haven't gotten going on it yet. The days have been good and until the last few warmed up after cold nights. The last -4 C. was a cold one.

I so admire you and Hugh's industry in getting the trees felled with help and all the work it must be drying, stacking, then hauling wood in every day to burn in the winter. It's great that you are enjoying spring now, and enjoying your quilting as well. Perhaps someday I will get my mind wrapped around making quilt squares, it looks like such fun.

Hi Jean! It must be lovely to harvest your own firewood! A wood fire gives off such bone-warming heat. Terry and I have a gas fireplace which is very convenient; no muss, no fuss. We have it on for the first time today, because it is rainy and chilly outside. I get my wood fires when I go home to Nova Scotia.
The log cabin pattern is a beautiful one, but I agree that it would be better with more contrast. I'm liv ing my quilting dreams vicariously through you.

What a magnificent pile of wood...many a good fire on cold nights...O,, I love WINTER...fires, hot chocolate, scarves, gloves...just LOVE it.
Maybe a reject but still very pretty! Wonderful firewood pile. We have no heat in our home right now except for a little electric heater. We do have two wood stoves but our insurance won't let us use them. Crazy in this land of trees that I live in!!
Our wood stove is blazing away as I write this. We use about 5 face cords of wood each winter.
